OUR LEARNING APPROACH
We cover the NZ curriculum thoroughly with a particular emphasis on providing a strong foundation for reading, written language and mathematics. The ability of children to think, create and collaborate are also vital skills for the future. We nurture resilience and having an open mind set in every child.
-
Maths
NCS students learn their basic facts, core number concepts, algebra, statistics, geometry and other strands in maths. The DMiC maths collaborative problem solving approach is also a feature in classrooms.
-
English
Our youngest students follow the Structured Literacy approach. Our Spelling, Handwriting, Writing and Reading programmes ensure students leave NCS confident and capable in Literacy learning.
-
Enviro Schools
Our school is a Bronze Enviro School. Our children are learning how to take care of their environment through many initiatives around the school like recycling, composting, Garden to Table, and many more.
-
Technology
We have a balanced approach to the use of Digital Technology: Screen v Green Time, Creativity before consumption. We use devices to support, reinforce and enrich our learning.
-
Digi Awards
Each year several classes enter the Digi Awards Schools competition. Maybe animation, photography or Graphics. Our students love the challenge and creativity needed.
-
Special Needs
We offer extra support for children who require additional assistance. Outside agencies including the MOE work with us to provide this support.
-
ESOL
ESOL support is provided for those with a non-English speaking background through a dedicated teacher aide, Debbie Bradley, under the direction of Carol Scott. Debbie runs the programme from Monday to Thursday.
